SpeedStrap's 2″ x 12′ Through the Wheel Lasso Tie-Down is a great way to lock the wheels of your vehicle down to the trailer. They hold the tire down tight to the trailer, and can be used on almost any size tire. Rated at 3,333 lb Safe Working Load (SWL) and a 10,000 lb Maximum Rated Capacity (MRC), these 2″ tie-downs are built with the highest quality. Each premium ratchet mechanism features our signature, wide handle, comfort grip and protective end caps on the barrels to protect your rig. These are the last tie-downs that you’ll ever need!
WHY USE THROUGH THE WHEEL LASSO TIE DOWNS?
Regular tie-downs that connect to the frame or bumper are not always the ideal way to secure your vehicle. As you travel down the road, the vehicle will still float up and down on the suspension. This can cause any tie-downs attached to the frame to loosen and tighten as the vehicle moves. The best solution to avoid this is to attach directly to the tires (which have almost no movement, since they are grounded to the trailer). Through-the-Wheel Tie-Downs run through the wheel & tire, keeping the vehicle secure and grounded to the trailer for the duration of your journey. While still allowing the vehicle to naturally float on its suspension.
HOW IT WORKS
Take the strap end of the tie-down and run it through the wheel, then feed it through the D-Ring, and then back into the ratchet barrel. Pull tight and ratchet the tire down tight to your trailer. The tie-down creates a loop that tightens against the wheel, and can fit pretty much any size tire. Since you’re only running the strap webbing through the wheel, it can work with almost any style of spokes (unlike a metal hook which may not fit, or can scratch your wheel).
KIT INCLUDES:
4 – Heavy Duty Through the Wheel Lasso Tie Downs
4 – SpeedWraps – The simplest thing makes a world of difference. This doubles sided hook n’ loop strap is perfect for securing any loose straps from flying in the wind. They’re also great for wrapping around the ratchets when stored, to keep everything neat and tidy.
1 – Large Tool Bag – Keep everything neat and organized
These rock slider steps have an interesting design and look good, unfortunately the build quality is less than expected. First, the access holes for the bolts are tight - whether they are too small or the coating makes them too small, I don’t know. I do know that it made the installation challenging. Once the bolts are seated and the nuts are tightened, the socket is wedged between the bolt head and the side of the access hole so tightly that you cannot remove the socket. I had to loosen the nut, pull the bolt partway back so I could remove the socket and then advance the bolt, wedge it in place with a flat screwdriver and tighten the nut from the other side. Especially challenging since the other side doesn’t allow room for a ratchet or closed wrench so you have to do it with the open side of a wrench. 5 out of 6 of the access holes were like this. The other worked like a charm and was super easy.
Secondly, the screws for the replaceable protector piece are easily jammed and broken. I read the instructions to take extra care to seat them properly but that doesn’t help when you cannot even remove some of them without them locking up and breaking off if you apply too much force. No matter how I seated them, I had 2 on one side and 5-7 of them on the other side that would get halfway in and lock up. I gave up and bought TEK screws and used them instead.
Thirdly, the welds were not uniform and looked amateurish. Fortunately they’re mostly hidden.
We’ll see how they perform once I get them out on the trails and rocks.
